The Most Rev John Hackenley (4 August 1877 – 16 November 1943) 〔(nspei lists it as the 16th )〕 was an eminent Anglican priest, the seventh Bishop of Nova Scotia.〔The Times, Wednesday, Dec 01, 1943; pg. 7; Issue 49717; col D ''Obituary The Rt Rev J. Hackenley''〕
Educated at the University of King's College 〔(Later Chancellor )〕 he was ordained in 1904.〔"The Clergy List” London, Kelly’s, 1913〕 His first post was a curacy at Digby Neck after which he held incumbencies at of Granville, Indian Harbour,〔(Rootsweb )〕 La Have and North Sydney.〔“Who was Who”1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 He was then Bishop Coadjutor of Nova Scotia from 1925 until 1934, Bishop to 1939〔“Yearbook of American Churches:A Record of Religious Activities, 1937-38” Webber, F.C. (Ed), New York American Churches Press, 1939〕 and Archbishop until his death.〔(ILN )〕 He married late in life 〔(Dauphinee family web-site )〕 and there is a memorial to him in the church at French Village.
